The Reality Between the Projects
Billie Eilish – Live at the O2
GRAMMY Nominee | Feature Concert Film
One month you’re cutting a global tour film. The next, you’re refreshing your inbox wondering if it’s all gone quiet for good.
That’s the industry.
And it doesn’t matter how big the project was, how many awards it won, or who the artist was — the freelance cycle is still brutal.
I’ve had years where I was editing for Beyoncé, Coldplay, Taylor Swift, and still found myself in the gaps wondering:
Did I peak already?
Is this the part where it all falls off?
Will anyone care about the next thing?
But here’s what I’ve learned:
Your last gig doesn’t define your next one
Every project ends. That’s the game.
The work speaks — but so does the way you show up in the quiet weeks.
Visibility is part of the job now
People forget.
Not because they don’t rate you — but because they’re busy.
Remind them what you do. Share what you love. Stay present.
Don’t let silence define your value
Just because you’re not editing this week doesn’t mean you’re not worth editing.
Take the down time to recalibrate. Recut your reel. Rest your eyes.
I still struggle with the gaps.
But I’m learning to see them not as failure — but as space.
And sometimes, space is where the best stories start.
